Diary and letters, 1840-1852.

Barnes's diary describing his voyage to California, experiences in the mines, and his return trip, is written in two pocket diaries which cover 1849-1851. Entries for 1850-1851 are expanded in a third volume, and all three volumes are recopied into a fourth volume. There are 15 letters by Hiram to Anson H. Barnes (52 p.) and a letter by Smith Tuttle to Stark & Co. of San Francisco introducing Hiram. 20 items.
